Blues dance is a family of Black American social dances (some solo, some partnered) that coevolved with different styles of Blues music throughout history, starting in the late 1800s and extending through today. Blues dance celebrates freedom of expression within community, improvisation, rhythm, and more!
**Evening schedule**
7-8pm: Blues lesson with Kevin & Julie - "Playing with Rhythm & Groove"
8-9pm: Community Studio
9-11pm: Social dancing DJed by Julie & Kevin
**Lesson info**
“Playing with rhythm & groove”
In this class, we’ll work on the concept of “pocket” and getting our dance to “groove.” We’ll work on other concepts like identifying rhythms in a song, changes in a song as it goes through a blues form, and using these concepts to shape our dancing.
No partner required.
This class assumes some knowledge of blues dancing, but we'll do our best to accommodate new-to-blues blues dancers as needed.
